Downhill rock gardens are one of the most challenging and rewarding features on the trail. They demand focus, balance, and a good dose of confidence. Whether you're new to technical terrain or looking to sharpen your skills, these quick tips will help you ride smoother, stay in control, and have more fun when the rocks get rough.
Here are 3 essential tips for riding downhill rock gardens:
Look Ahead, Not Down – Keep your eyes scanning 10–15 feet ahead to pick your line early. Avoid staring at the front wheel or individual rocks; your bike will follow your eyes.
Stay Loose and Centered – Keep your body relaxed with a low, neutral stance. Let the bike move beneath you, absorbing impact with bent elbows and knees.
Momentum Is Your Friend – Maintain a steady pace; slowing down too much can make navigating rocks harder. Controlled speed helps you roll over obstacles more smoothly.
